About Trump Intl golf club – Brief history
- Locals played golf here informally as far back as 1892
- The Scottish Black Watch Regiment considered Doonbeg the perfect setting for links golf
- In the early 1990s, the Doonbeg Community Development Company proposed a course on the site and Shannon Development bought 377 acres of links from 4 local farming families to build the course
- The original course, Doonbeg, opened on 9th July 2002
- The Trump Organisation took over in 2014
- The newly redesigned course opened for play in 2016 and was renamed Trump International Golf Links Ireland - Doonbeg

Featured hole – Hole 18
The 18th is a fabulously picturesque 432 yard Par 4, which bends right before curling left as you approach the green. There's a sandy beach just fifteen feet below the fairway, then nothing but endless miles of roaring Atlantic Ocean. If you can finish your drive from the back tee in less than 300 yards you should avoid a couple of tricky fairway bunkers to the left of the hole. If you move up one tee box they're within reach on a 260 yard poke. A picturesque setting makes the hole even more special – it’s a marvellous end to a splendid game.
Known for its splendid opening hole and excellent par-3s
Doonbeg provides one of the very best opening holes in Ireland, a Par-5 that kicks off on a beautiful green set in a natural amphitheatre of dunes covered with tough marram grass. There's also a strong collection of par threes, the best of which is the 138 yard 14th. This is the most scenic hole on the course, bunkerless and best played from an elevated tee to the green 15 feet below. Some experts say it's one of the best par-3s in south west Ireland, which is high praise indeed considering the calibre of courses on offer there.
